Kathmandu Valley offers an intriguing blend of spiritual atmosphere, ancient palaces, and bustling markets, making it an ideal starting point for your adventure.
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, the vibrant capital city of Nepal, you will be greeted by your guide or driver at the Tribhuvan International Airport. After a warm welcome, you'll be transferred to your hotel where you can rest and recover from your flight. Depending on your arrival time, you might have a chance to explore a little around the hotel area or relax in preparation for the upcoming days of adventure. Kathmandu is rich in culture, history, and architectural beauty, so even a short walk can be exciting.
This day is dedicated to exploring the major cultural and historical landmarks of Kathmandu. Your journey begins with a visit to Swayambhunath Stupa (also known as the Monkey Temple), offering panoramic views of the valley and its surrounding mountains. You’ll then proceed to Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples in Nepal, situated along the banks of the Bagmati River. Next, visit Boudhanath Stupa, a massive Buddhist stupa that serves as an important pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhists. Your sightseeing tour will also take you to Durbar Square, the historic center of Kathmandu, home to ancient palaces, temples, and the famous Kumari Ghar, where the living goddess is believed to reside.
After breakfast, you’ll head to the airport for a short flight from Kathmandu to Chitwan. The flight will take approximately 25-30 minutes, offering scenic views of the hills and plains. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your accommodation, usually a lodge or resort on the outskirts of Chitwan National Park. After checking in and having lunch, you will embark on your first safari activity: either a jungle walk, a canoe ride along the Rapti River, or a visit to the elephant breeding center. In the evening, you may be able to watch a traditional Tharu cultural dance, a fun way to experience the local culture of the region.
On Day 4, you will spend the entire day exploring Chitwan National Park, one of Nepal’s most famous wildlife reserves. Your day will begin early with a jeep safari through the jungle. The park is home to various species of wildlife, including the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, Royal Bengal tigers, wild elephants, deer, and a variety of bird species. Your guide will help you spot these animals as you travel through the dense jungle and grasslands. After a break for lunch, you may head out again for another safari activity, perhaps a boat ride along the river, where you can spot crocodiles and birds. Chitwan is a haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
On this day, you will enjoy a half-day safari, which could be another jeep safari or a canoe ride depending on your preference. After the safari, you will return to your lodge for breakfast and check-out. You will then be transferred back to Bharatpur Airport for your flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure, allowing you to relax after your time in Chitwan or explore the city on your own.
This day is dedicated to exploring two ancient cities near Kathmandu—Patan and Bhaktapur. You will begin with a visit to Patan Durbar Square, renowned for its stunning architecture, temples, and pagodas. The square houses the Patan Museum, which showcases a collection of traditional Nepalese art. From Patan, you will head to Bhaktapur, one of the most beautifully preserved medieval cities in Nepal. Here, you will visit the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, where you can marvel at the intricately carved wooden windows, the famous Vatsala Temple, and the 55-Window Palace. Bhaktapur is also famous for its traditional pottery, handwoven goods, and king curd (a local delicacy). Your day will end with a leisurely walk through the narrow streets, soaking in the rich history and culture of these UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
After breakfast, you will take a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, a town located in the southwestern part of Nepal. The flight lasts about an hour. From Nepalgunj, you will drive approximately 4 to 5 hours to Bardiya, an area known for its untouched wilderness and the Bardiya National Park, a lesser-visited but equally beautiful national park. Upon arrival, check-in at your lodge or resort and spend the evening relaxing in the serene environment. You can enjoy a quiet walk around the area or explore the local village.
Your full day in Bardiya National Park will be spent on safari activities. Bardiya is one of the best places in Nepal to spot tigers, and it is home to a variety of other wildlife, including rhinoceros, wild boars, crocodiles, and Gangetic dolphins in the Karnali River. Your guide will take you on a jungle walk, a jeep safari, or a boat ride, depending on the conditions and your interests. The park is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 400 species of birds. Enjoy a traditional lunch at the lodge, and in the afternoon, continue with your exploration of this pristine wilderness.
On the morning of Day 9, you’ll embark on a half-day safari before returning to your lodge for breakfast. After your safari, you will have some time to relax or visit the local village of Bardiya. In the afternoon, you’ll be driven back to Nepalgunj and catch a flight back to Kathmandu. Upon your return to Kathmandu, you will have the rest of the day at leisure to relax at your hotel or engage in some light sightseeing or shopping.
This is a day for you to relax and explore Kathmandu at your own pace. You might want to visit the famous Thamel area for shopping, where you can buy local handicrafts, trekking gear, pashmina shawls, and souvenirs. You can also visit some lesser-known temples, cafes, or just enjoy a leisurely walk around the city. If you have any specific interests—such as visiting art galleries, or local markets—your guide will be happy to assist you. This day is designed to give you flexibility and time to unwind before your departure.
On your final day in Nepal, depending on the timing of your flight, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. Your journey through Nepal, filled with cultural, historical, and wildlife experiences, will end as you head back to your home country. The memories of the Himalayas, the jungle safaris, and the vibrant cities will surely stay with you long after your return.
